The Manvel Police Department names Sergeant Nathan Peters as the recipient of the 2024 Officer of the Year award. This award recognizes Sergeant Peters’ outstanding dedication, leadership, and lasting contributions to the department and the City of Manvel.
Sergeant Peters began his career with the Manvel Police Department in 2010 as a Patrol Officer and was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in December 2022. Throughout his tenure, he has exemplified the core values of public service, professionalism, and community engagement that define the Officer of the Year award.
Sergeant Peters played a pivotal role in developing and implementing the department’s UAS Drone Program. As one of the first certified drone pilots, he helped establish deployment protocols and train new pilots. With over 60 flight hours logged, his efforts have supported numerous successful operations, directly enhancing public safety.
Sergeant Peters has also shown exceptional dedication to youth engagement and community outreach. He has been a dedicated advocate and volunteer with the Manvel Teen Court Program, donating his time to help educate more than 150 students about the legal system, of which 50 students graduated in 2024. Additionally, he has served as a mentor and instructor in the Manvel Teen Citizen Police Academy, inspiring the next generation of law enforcement professionals through education and example.
Since his promotion, Sergeant Peters has made significant strides in improving departmental operations. He has authored comprehensive procedural manuals covering affidavit applications, jail protocols, court and bailiff duties, and field training. His approach has enhanced the department’s efficiency and effectiveness, earning widespread respect among his peers.
His commitment to proactive policing was particularly evident in 2024, when his focused patrol efforts led to multiple arrests in high-crime areas. At the same time, he continues to mentor fellow officers, sharing his experience and fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous learning.
